Malaga Hotels Guide - Know Where To Locate Your Hotel by Mairead Foley
Malaga is one of the top sun holiday and city break destinations in Andalucia, Spain. It has an enviable location on the Costa del Sol at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea and boasts beautiful sunny weather and miles of sandy beaches.

Are you heading to Malaga soon? Before you book your hotel, read our brief guide and find out where in the city is the best place for you to base yourself.

Malaga is a colourful and charming coastal city which is full of culture, history and heritage. It's also a fantastic sun holiday resort with lots of hotels and accommodations lining its golden beaches. This lively Mediterranean gem is a popular destination all year round and is brimming with hotels. Here are some of the most popular hotel locations in the city;

Malaga's Old Town

Malaga's Old Town is beautiful with lots of charming cobbled streets. It has a 19th century feel to it with its squares, baroque features and architectures. It contains some famous attractions such as the Ayuntamiento de Malaga (Malaga Town Hall), the Museo Municipal de Malaga and La Alcazaba (a moorish fortification dating from the 8th century). You will also see the Castillo de Gibralfaro, Plaza de Toros, Malaga Cathedral, Museo Picasso and the Roman Amphitheatre.

The Paseo del Parque is a relaxing green park located at the southern edge of the Old Town and a popular place where visitors can escape the city and relax for a while.

The Old Town is full of quaint shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. You could spend hours wandering the streets and browsing stalls in the Old Town. It's also got lots of speciality stores, high streets clothes shops and stylish boutiques. The city's most fashionable shopping street is located in the Old Town and called Marqués de Larios

There are lots of Malaga hotels to choose from in the Old Town and the good thing about staying here is that you're not too far away from the seafront promenade.

Los Montes District

For a quieter more relaxing holiday chose a hotel in the Los Montes district. It boasts fantastic views of Malaga's Old Town across the bay. Los Montes is a very traditional part of the city with many traditional style taverns and restaurants serving traditional dishes and local wines.

Malaga's Beaches

La Malagueta is the nearest beach to the city centre and is popular with locals and tourists alike. You may find it hard to believe, but this is an artificial beach with its sand imported directly from the Sahara!

The beachside promenade is lined with cafes, bars and restaurants and dotted with hotels. A great place to stay if you want easy access to the beach.

Malaga is a great place to base yourself on the Coasta Del Sol. From here, you can drive to the nearby resorts of Torremolinos and Fuengirola. Torremolinos is just 12km south of Malaga, Marbella 60km while Fuengirola is about 25km.

Hotel accommodation in Malaga is plentiful with hotels to suits all budgets weather you're looking for cheap hotels in Malaga or luxury Malaga hotels. If you're on a budget then choose 1 or 2 star hotels which offer self catering guestrooms. The busiest time of the year in Malaga is Easter (Semana Santa religious celebrations) and the summer season from June-September. If you avoid these times then you should be able to find cheaper hotel prices. Another way to get a good deal on hotels in Malaga is to book early. Sometimes if you book a hotel up to 3 months in advance you can make genuine savings.

Travel to Nerja and Costa del Sol
Nerja is a beautiful resort known for its seashore and hardly 40 mins of drive from the Malaga international airport and is located at the eastern side of Spain's Costa del Sol. What makes this place one of the most beautiful tourist spots in the world is the fact that once a small fishing village this place has still maintained its Spanish flavor and also developed in an extremely controlled manner. It means that though the development has taken place but yet the property development has been low rise which gives it an ancient and rich look.

Also, you don’t have to worry about the weather at Nerja ever since you have over 300 days of sunshine every year which means that you can pack your bags and come here the moment you get a chance. It also gives you a chance to take a peep into the local fishing industry as you overlook the sea which a lot of other western resorts of Malaga don’t. Wandering through its beautiful streets and markets is an experience one can cherish for a long period of time.

What makes spending your vacations in Nerja is the fact that it is very tourist friendly. They have several tourist information offices set up at various spots in the city like the one located near Balcon de Europa. Balcon de Europa is known for its breath taking view of the Nerja coastline stretching in both directions. The view of the Sierra de Almijara Mountains is also one that will stay with you till the end of time.

It is very comfortable to be in, even during the summers.
So much to see and do
One place you must not skip when in the city is the Cathedral of Malaga, the construction of which began way back in 1528 and is a landmark of the place.
You can find some amazing Gothic and Greek art and the remains of an ancient playhouse of the Romans in two museums located here.
Pottery and amusement too
You can see the most beautiful pottery in the world on display at the Museo de la Ceramica.
And if its entertainment you are looking for then you can have your hearts fill at the Tivoli Amusement playground.
A grand citadel and a great harbor view too
There is even a stronghold or Alcazabo which you can see at Andalucia. And from the fortress, you can have the most remarkable view of the city harbor.

Beauty and the beach!
Truly Malaga is beauty away from words. Golden sands, lovely beaches just right for sun bathing, splendid weather, hills, mountains, rivers, valleys, and great weather during the whole year, this is without any doubt a fantasy place for a vacation.
The people over here are fluent in English, as well as German - of course, this is in addition the native language which is Spanish.
Malaka first
The city of Malaga was in the beginning named as Malaka in 700BC, by the Phoenician settlers. It was then invaded by the Greeks and then by the Carthaginians.
But it was in the year 200 BC that the city was essentially built by the all conquering Romans.
So much to see here
Today, the place is a very full of activity trading harbor. This was established in the 8th century, when the Moors conquered the Iberian Peninsula.
There is so much that you will get to see and do over here. Places to shop, eateries, bars, the impressive port, amazing streets and even a museum built after the famous artist Pablo Picasso, who was born here.
The place of the rich and the famous
The place is famous for attracting the rich and the famous from all over the world.
Beautiful historic churches, historic structures, wine, seafood and an ambience that is calm and soothing, make the city the wonderful spot to run away from it all.
When you are on vacation in the city of Malaga, be sure of one thing – do not overlook to taste Manzanilla or Fino the Spanish white wine and the mouth watering fried fish!
